They shall be changed

Bible Reading: Hebrews 1
Hebrews 1:10-12 And, Thou, Lord, in the beginning hast laid the foundation of the earth; and the heavens are the works of thine hands: 11 They shall perish; but thou remainest; and they all shall wax old as doth a garment; 12 And as a vesture shalt thou fold them up, and they shall be changed: but thou art the same, and thy years shall not fail.

Jesus is the Creator. He laid the foundation of the earth and the heavens are the works of his hands. (John 1:1 and Colossians 1:16)

Here we learn that the present earth and heavens will not last forever. The Bible says they will perish. The earth and heavens will wax old as a garment. Like a pair of blue jeans, they will eventually wear out and a new pair will be necessary. The things that seem so permanent will be changed. The Rocky Mountains and the Atlantic Ocean will one day be no more. The Bible says:

2 Peter 3:10 But the day of the Lord will come as a thief in the night; in the which the heavens shall pass away with a great noise, and the elements shall melt with fervent heat, the earth also and the works that are therein shall be burned up.

For the believer, we know that this is the destiny of the earth and the heavens. When Jesus returns, this worn out universe will need to be folded up and a new one will be necessary.

2 Peter 3:13 Nevertheless we, according to his promise, look for new heavens and a new earth, wherein dwelleth righteousness.

John got to see the future and in Scripture, he tells us what we have to look forward to:

Revelation 21:1-2 And I saw a new heaven and a new earth: for the first heaven and the first earth were passed away; and there was no more sea. 2 And I John saw the holy city, new Jerusalem, coming down from God out of heaven, prepared as a bride adorned for her husband.

The world and all we know about our universe will one day change. But Jesus Christ will not change. Jesus will remain and his years shall not fail. Don't put your trust in things that will change. Put your faith in Jesus Christ and he will take you through all the changes that are coming!

He has promised!

In Christ,
