Labour to Enter that rest

Bible Reading: Hebrews 4
Hebrews 4:10-11 For he that is entered into his rest, he also hath ceased from his own works, as God did from his.
11 Let us labour therefore to enter into that rest, lest any man fall after the same example of unbelief.

The Sabbath day was a big deal for Israel. It reminded them of that fact that God had worked to create for six days and then rested from his works the seventh day. The Bible tells us there remains a sabbath rest for the people of God. Is that Sunday? No... Is it still Saturday? No, the Bible is not talking about a particular day, but about a relationship with Jesus Christ.

When someone places their faith in Jesus, they enter into his rest. The work of creation was complete on day six - God was finished creating. The work of redemption was completed on the cross - God was finished redeeming. Now, when someone believes on Jesus, they enter into the rest of redemption. That person ceases from his own religious works to save him.

The book of Hebrews reminds us that we need to labour to enter into this rest. That sounds like a contradiction, but it really explains a lot. We need to do what Jesus told the people in John six:

John 6:28-29 Then said they unto him, What shall we do, that we might work the works of God? 29 Jesus answered and said unto them, This is the work of God, that ye believe on him whom he hath sent.

We need to believe on Jesus. When we do, we enter into the perpetual rest of trusting him. Unbelief keeps a man from this rest. It keeps him dependent upon himself. The Bible says we must believe on Christ.

Let us labour to help many others enter into the rest of Jesus. Let us proclaim the gospel clearly and boldly. Let us live the life of rest that is one of walking daily in Christ.

In Christ,
Rody
