From such withdraw thyself

Bible Reading: 1 Timothy 6
1 Timothy 6:5 Perverse disputings of men of corrupt minds, and destitute of the truth, supposing that gain is godliness: from such withdraw thyself.

There are some people you should avoid. Especially those who pervert the truth of God. Don't listen to their teaching and don't let them influence your decisions. These men have corrupt minds. They are destitute of the truth.

What do they teach that is so far from the truth and so much to be avoided? They suppose that gain is godliness. They love money and teach that if you have a lot of wealth, it is because you are godly.

Run!!!

The Bible teaches something different!

1 Timothy 6:6-8 But godliness with contentment is great gain. 7 For we brought nothing into this world, and it is certain we can carry nothing out. 8 And having food and raiment let us be therewith content.

Great gain in the Christian life is godliness with contentment. We are to be content with the necessities of life because we cannot take the things of this life with us to the next. Jesus said:

Matthew 6:19-20 Lay not up for yourselves treasures upon earth, where moth and rust doth corrupt, and where thieves break through and steal: 20 But lay up for yourselves treasures in heaven, where neither moth nor rust doth corrupt, and where thieves do not break through nor steal:

A desire to be rich in this world is a trap! You will be caught up with greed and all manny of foolish and hurtful lusts.

1 Timothy 6:9-10 But they that will be rich fall into temptation and a snare, and into many foolish and hurtful lusts, which drown men in destruction and perdition. 10 For the love of money is the root of all evil: which while some coveted after, they have erred from the faith, and pierced themselves through with many sorrows.

Don't try to be rich. Don't covet worldly wealth. Be content with what you have and store up treasures in heaven. Focus on that which is eternal.

In Christ,
