Bible Reading: Titus 3
Titus 3:2 To speak evil of no man, to be no brawlers, but gentle, shewing all meekness unto all men.
What would our world be like if we kept this admonition in Scripture? What if all Christians did not speak evil of any man?
Some things would begin to happen. First, we would begin to change the way we think. Jesus said:
Mark 7:20-23 And he said, That which cometh out of the man, that defileth the man. 21 For from within, out of the heart of men, proceed evil thoughts, adulteries, fornications, murders, 22 Thefts, covetousness, wickedness, deceit, lasciviousness, an evil eye, blasphemy, pride, foolishness: 23 All these evil things come from within, and defile the man.
What we say comes from what we are thinking in our hearts. If we stop speaking evil, it means we are not thinking evil thoughts.
Next, we would begin to view people differently. We would value people and know that instead of speaking evil of them, even if they have sinned, we must show them love.
1 Peter 4:8 And above all things have fervent charity among yourselves: for charity shall cover the multitude of sins.
If we love people, we cover their sins instead of broadcasting their sins.
Finally, we would begin to realize how devastating our tongues can be.
Proverbs 18:21 Death and life are in the power of the tongue: and they that love it shall eat the fruit thereof.
James 3:2 For in many things we offend all. If any man offend not in word, the same is a perfect man, and able also to bridle the whole body.
If you can bridle your tongue, you will be able to control your whole body. Please consider what Jesus wants you to use the power of speech he has given you for. Has he given it to speak evil of others? Has he given it to love others and bring glory to him?
In Christ,
