Bible Reading: 2 Thessalonians 1
2 Thessalonians 1:11-12 Wherefore also we pray always for you, that our God would count you worthy of this calling, and fulfil all the good pleasure of his goodness, and the work of faith with power: 12 That the name of our Lord Jesus Christ may be glorified in you, and ye in him, according to the grace of our God and the Lord Jesus Christ.
Here is a prayer for believers. I want this prayer prayed for me, don't you? To be counted worthy of the calling of God is only going to happen because of the infinite merit of Jesus Christ. Do you live the life that Jesus has given to you? Wouldn't it be wonderful to walk in the calling of God and fulfill the good pleasure of his goodness all the time? That was Paul's desire for the church.
There is work that God has for us. That work is a work of faith. Now that is not working toward salvation, but is a result of salvation. This prayer is a prayer that the Holy Spirit would empower believers to do the good works that God has for them. The power for ministry comes from God.
Ephesians 2:10 For we are his workmanship, created in Christ Jesus unto good works, which God hath before ordained that we should walk in them.
Ephesians 3:20-21 Now unto him that is able to do exceeding abundantly above all that we ask or think, according to the power that worketh in us, 21 Unto him be glory in the church by Christ Jesus throughout all ages, world without end. Amen.
When God works through us, the works bring glory to him. This is the goal of the Christian life! Bringing glory to God is why we were created! Who are you praying a prayer like this for? Who is praying something like this for you?
In Christ,
Rody
