Bible Reading: 2 Samuel 14; 2 Corinthians 7; Ezekiel 21; Psalm 68
Psalms 68:19 Blessed be the Lord, who daily loadeth us with benefits, even the God of our salvation. Selah.
David said, “Blessed be the Lord!” He was blessing the Lord because the mighty deliverances he had received from the Lord. As David prayed and pondered what God did, he acknowledged that daily he was loaded with benefits from God. What a picture of God’s blessing in our lives! The first use of this particular Hebrew word is in Genesis and it is used of Joseph’s brothers loading their asses for a journey. Have you ever seen a picture of a beast of burden loaded with a pack? Do you realize that every day God loads you with a weighty load of…benefits?
Many times all we can focus on are the weight of burdens that we have to carry. There is much pain, sorrow and grief that we have to deal with in this sin-sick world. David too had his share of weighty burdens that he had to bear. Many times we are struggling under the weight of the burdens and we forget that God is loading us down with blessings! The Bible says:
Ephesians 1:3 Blessed be the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, who hath blessed us with all spiritual blessings in heavenly places in Christ.
There are so many benefits that God has given to his children! First, we are blessed with ALL spiritual blessings in heavenly places in Christ. When we compare the unbelievable blessings of eternity with this life, all those heavy burdens simply become lighter!
Romans 8:18 For I reckon that the sufferings of this present time are not worthy to be compared with the glory which shall be revealed in us.
Secondly, even with the heavy burdens there are so many EARTHLY benefits that God daily loads us with that they cannot be counted! There is life, health, family, friends, home, work, the ability to think, our churches, the privilege of being used in the service of Christ, relationships, beautiful sunrises and sunsets… Just take a few moments and focus on all the benefits that God daily loads you down with!
Thirdly – and most importantly, he is the God of our salvation. Daily we are loaded with the benefit of knowing that we are saved by the blood of Jesus Christ. Daily we are loaded with the benefit of walking in a close relationship with God because he is the God of our salvation!
In Christ,
Rody
