The LORD render to every man his righteousness

Bible Reading: 1 Samuel 26; 1 Corinthians 7; Ezekiel 5; Psalms 42 & 43

1 Samuel 26:23-24 The LORD render to every man his righteousness and his faithfulness: for the LORD delivered thee into my hand to day, but I would not stretch forth mine hand against the LORD'S anointed. And, behold, as thy life was much set by this day in mine eyes, so let my life be much set by in the eyes of the LORD, and let him deliver me out of all tribulation.

David had snuck into Saul’s camp while they slept and taken his spear and his water pot. Now he stood on the hill with the evidence that he could have taken Saul’s life. When it came to being falsely accused, David was first in line! Saul hated him with a demonic jealousy and wanted him dead. However, David had done nothing wrong. He did not want to take Saul’s life. He saw him as the anointed of the Lord.

David was trusting God to reward him for his integrity. Do you have those who falsely accuse you? Do you ever have those who are jealous of what God has done in your life? Do you feel the need to defend yourself or to make sure that they know who is in charge? David was free from that. He trusted God and he knew that when God was ready for him to be king that God would take Saul out of the way. He also asked Saul to view his life in the same way that David had valued his.

Can you be this kind to your enemies? You can with the Holy Spirit’s help! He can bring the fruit of the Spirit out of your life. He can fill you with love even for those who do not love you. Remember what Jesus said:

Matthew 5:44-46 But I say unto you, Love your enemies, bless them that curse you, do good to them that hate you, and pray for them which despitefully use you, and persecute you; That ye may be the children of your Father which is in heaven: for he maketh his sun to rise on the evil and on the good, and sendeth rain on the just and on the unjust. For if ye love them which love you, what reward have ye? do not even the publicans the same?

Here is an example of David showing honor to whom honor is due (Romans 13:7) and loving his enemy. David valued Saul’s life even though Saul did not value his.

Romans 12:21 Be not overcome of evil, but overcome evil with good.

In Christ,
