Bible Reading: Judges 6; Acts 10; Jeremiah 19; Mark 5
Acts 10:43 To him [Jesus] give all the prophets witness, that through his name whosoever believeth in him shall receive remission of sins.
When Peter preached to Cornelius and his household, he told them that all the prophets in the Old Testament gave witness to the Lord Jesus Christ. That is amazing in light of the fact that many of the religious leaders who knew the Prophets so well rejected him! Yet they all gave witness to Jesus. Here are a few specific instances:
Jude 1:14-15 And Enoch also, the seventh from Adam, prophesied of these, saying, Behold, the Lord cometh with ten thousands of his saints, To execute judgment upon all, and to convince all that are ungodly among them of all their ungodly deeds which they have ungodly committed, and of all their hard speeches which ungodly sinners have spoken against him.
Psalms 22:15-16 My strength is dried up like a potsherd; and my tongue cleaveth to my jaws; and thou hast brought me into the dust of death. For dogs have compassed me: the assembly of the wicked have inclosed me: they pierced my hands and my feet.
Isaiah 53:6 All we like sheep have gone astray; we have turned every one to his own way; and the LORD hath laid on him the iniquity of us all.
Micah 5:2 But thou, Bethlehem Ephratah, though thou be little among the thousands of Judah, yet out of thee shall he come forth unto me that is to be ruler in Israel; whose goings forth have been from of old, from everlasting.
The Old Testament says that Jesus is coming. The New Testament says that Jesus is here! And with the New Testament (Covenant) comes the amazing and wonderful news that having your sins taken away is available to all and anyone. Peter shared the message with Gentiles at Cornelius' house and he told them exactly what they needed to do to have their sins removed. They needed to believe in Jesus. It is amazing that so many want to add something to the wonderful gospel of Jesus Christ. We have such a hard time receiving gifts! We want to earn the things that we have. But we cannot earn eternal life. It is a gift and the way to receive it is to believe on the name of Jesus.
Acts 4:12 Neither is there salvation in any other: for there is none other name under heaven given among men, whereby we must be saved.
Acts 16:30-31 And brought them out, and said, Sirs, what must I do to be saved? And they said, Believe on the Lord Jesus Christ, and thou shalt be saved, and thy house.
John 3:16 For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life.
Do you believe in Jesus?
In Christ,
