Let them praise the name of the LORD

Bible Reading: Joshua 16 & 17; Psalm 148; Jeremiah 8; Matthew 22

Psalms 148:13 Let them praise the name of the LORD: for his name alone is excellent; his glory is above the earth and heaven.

The Bible says that everything in creation is to praise the name of the LORD. His name alone is excellent. The name of God refers to his character, honor, authority and his attributes. The name of God is absolutely unique. There is no other like him. As Creator, he has made everything that exists including the angels and the host of heaven. He made the earth and all things that are in it. He is the only One who could do something like this, so he is to be praised.

When we praise the name of God, we are acknowledging that his glory is above the earth and the heaven. He is more glorious than anything that he has created. His glory cannot be compared with anything that is created because he is so much higher than those finite things.

Psalms 8:1 O LORD our Lord, how excellent is thy name in all the earth! who hast set thy glory above the heavens.

His creatures in heaven praise him:

Isaiah 6:1-3 In the year that king Uzziah died I saw also the Lord sitting upon a throne, high and lifted up, and his train filled the temple. Above it stood the seraphims: each one had six wings; with twain he covered his face, and with twain he covered his feet, and with twain he did fly. And one cried unto another, and said, Holy, holy, holy, is the LORD of hosts: the whole earth is full of his glory.

This magnificent glory of the LORD was something that Jesus shared. He masked that glory in humanity during his time on earth, but before he was betrayed, he prayed asking the Father to restore him to that glory.

John 17:5 And now, O Father, glorify thou me with thine own self with the glory which I had with thee before the world was.

When we praise the name of the LORD, what is it? It is the name – JESUS.

Philippians 2:9-11 Wherefore God also hath highly exalted him, and given him a name which is above every name: That at the name of Jesus every knee should bow, of things in heaven, and things in earth, and things under the earth; And that every tongue should confess that Jesus Christ is Lord, to the glory of God the Father.

The name of Jesus is the name above every name. It is the glorious name at which every knee will bow. At the name of Jesus every tongue will confess that Jesus Christ is Lord! Do you confess that now? Lift high the name of Jesus!

In Christ,

Rody
