Until that day

Bible Reading: Matthew 26

Matthew 26:28-29 For this is my blood of the new testament, which is shed for many for the remission of sins. But I say unto you, I will not drink henceforth of this fruit of the vine, until that day when I drink it new with you in my Father's kingdom.

When we share in the Lord’s Supper, we are one man short! Jesus is with us as a gathered church in Spirit, but he is not partaking of the fruit of the vine. He will not until the kingdom has come. The cup that the church drinks represents the Lord’s blood that he shed for the remission of sins. When we drink the cup, we do so in remembrance of what Jesus did as he bled and died on the cross. He did that to pay for sins once and for all! What an incredible thought. We are forgiven because he bled and died. The blood of Jesus cleanses us from all sin.

As we pray, “Thy kingdom come…” we are anticipating the coming of Jesus Christ. He will return and get us and take us to the wedding feast of the Lamb. Then the kingdom will be inaugurated and Jesus will sit on David’s throne and rule the nations with a rod of iron. It is then that he will again drink with his bride the church. The disciples surely did not understand the significance of that last supper. They did not want to think about the Lord being taken from them. But Jesus clearly pointed out the significance of that night.

Every time you share in the Lord’s Supper, remember what he has done for you. Remember that he is coming again. Remember that he will drink the fruit of the vine again with his bride in the kingdom!

In Christ,

Rody
