Let God be true

Bible Reading: Romans 3

Romans 3:3-4 For what if some did not believe? shall their unbelief make the faith of God without effect? God forbid: yea, let God be true, but every man a liar; as it is written, That thou mightest be justified in thy sayings, and mightest overcome when thou art judged.

What if some Israelites did not believe the promises of God? That is the question that is being brought up here. Does the unbelief of some of the Israelites make the faith of God without effect? The apostle is answering a question that had come up. In essence here is how the reasoning goes:

1. God said he would deliver Israel and be their God.

2. Not all the Israelites believed the promises of God.

3. Therefore, God failed and believing in him is not wise.

The point of this portion of Romans is that God did not fail. The promises of God are always received by faith. Because some don’t believe God’s Word does not negate that word. The Bible says, “God forbid!” to such thinking. God’s promises are good to anyone who will believe. Among the Israelites there were many who did not believe. They did not receive the promises of God. Mankind’s infidelity does not negate the goodness of God!

Who would even think of judging God? Well, when people do look at God to judge him, his word is always true and he will overcome. His sayings are true and faithful. Men lie, God does not! This is good news for you and me today. God has promised us salvation through faith in Jesus Christ. Just because some people do not believe in Jesus does not negate what he has done. He has done a mighty work for us on the cross and the resurrection. We can receive his grace by believing the promise of eternal life through him. Let God be true. It does not matter what men say or believe.

You can trust God’s Word. He has spoken and it will come to pass!

In Christ,

Rody
