One mediator between God and men

Bible Reading: 2 Kings 5; 1 Timothy 2; Daniel 9; Psalms 117 & 118

1 Timothy 2:4-6 Who will have all men to be saved, and to come unto the knowledge of the truth. For there is one God, and one mediator between God and men, the man Christ Jesus; Who gave himself a ransom for all, to be testified in due time.

We are to pray for all men because God wants all men to be saved. The Bible is quite clear that God loves all men and wants them to be saved. In another place the Bible says:

2 Peter 3:9 The Lord is not slack concerning his promise, as some men count slackness; but is longsuffering to us-ward, not willing that any should perish, but that all should come to repentance.

As we pray to God, we have a mediator – Jesus Christ. He is the one and only mediator between us and God the Father. We must have a mediator because we are sinful men and women. God is perfectly holy and righteous. His Son, Jesus Christ became a man so he could pay for our sins through his death on the cross and bring us to God.

1 Peter 3:18 For Christ also hath once suffered for sins, the just for the unjust, that he might bring us to God, being put to death in the flesh, but quickened by the Spirit.

Many people have been taught that they need a priest to mediate between them and God. These poor folks go to a priest and confess their sins to him. They receive penance from him and do that which is ‘required’ thinking they are pleasing God. But the Bible is very clear that the only mediator we need is Jesus Christ. That means that you can pray to God anytime if you are praying in the name of Jesus Christ! You may boldly approach the throne of grace because Christ has paid the ransom for your soul with his blood.

Not only that, but he is our high priest who ever lives to make intercession for us!

Hebrews 7:25 Wherefore he is able also to save them to the uttermost that come unto God by him, seeing he ever liveth to make intercession for them.

How wonderful to know that you can draw near to God because of Jesus Christ! Don’t take this privilege for granted! Go to him in prayer and confess your sins. Bring your prayers and supplications to his throne. Jesus is there for you! You can trust him.

In Christ,

Rody
