Great is his mercy

Bible Reading: 1 Kings 17; Colossians 4; Ezekiel 47; Psalm 103

Psalms 103:10-11 He hath not dealt with us after our sins; nor rewarded us according to our iniquities. For as the heaven is high above the earth, so great is his mercy toward them that fear him.

Many times people say that something is not fair. But aren’t you glad that God does not treat us fairly? If he were to give us what was fair he would give us what we deserve. We deserve his judgment because we have sinned against a Holy God. But praise the Lord; he has not dealt with us after our sins. The Old Testament saint could bring an animal to die in his place and look forward to the day God would deal with sin once for all. The New Testament saint looks to the cross where God dealt with sin in Christ. God has not rewarded us for our iniquities! Instead, he has shown us his great mercy that is so much higher than heaven!

Ephesians 2:4-5 But God, who is rich in mercy, for his great love wherewith he loved us, Even when we were dead in sins, hath quickened us together with Christ, (by grace ye are saved;)

His mercy is amazing as he deals with sin.

Psalms 103:12 As far as the east is from the west, so far hath he removed our transgressions from us.

This illustration shows us how far God has removed our sins from us. If he moved them as far as north is from south, you would see them again. If you travel north around the globe on a longitude line, you will go over the top of the world and eventually be headed south. But, if you head east on a latitude line, you will always be headed east. You will not see west unless you turn and go the other way. God in his mercy has taken our sins away so they will not be brought up again!

Psalms 103:14-17 For he knoweth our frame; he remembereth that we are dust. As for man, his days are as grass: as a flower of the field, so he flourisheth. For the wind passeth over it, and it is gone; and the place thereof shall know it no more. But the mercy of the LORD is from everlasting to everlasting upon them that fear him, and his righteousness unto children's children.

We can trust that God has done this because unlike us, God is eternal. Man is a finite creature, but God is everlasting and that is how long his mercy lasts!

Praise the Lord for taking our sins away in Christ.

In Christ,

Rody
