Bible Reading: 1 Samuel 3; Romans 3; Jeremiah 41; Psalm 17
Romans 3:19-20 Now we know that what things soever the law saith, it saith to them who are under the law: that every mouth may be stopped, and all the world may become guilty before God. Therefore by the deeds of the law there shall no flesh be justified in his sight: for by the law is the knowledge of sin.
God gave his law to the Israelite people. From Mount Sinai, Moses delivered the law to the people and they began living by that law during their time in the wilderness. However, the rest of the world did not have that law directly from God. Since they did not have the Mosaic revelation does that mean they are not responsible for that law. The Bible's answer is no – the law of God stops every mouth and the entire world is guilty before God.
The Ten Commandments apply to every human. This is the law that is written on the heart of every man both Jews and Gentiles. When a person does something that is contrary to the law of God, their conscience lets them know it is wrong. This is the universal standard of righteousness for all people. Now the bad news is this: the entire world is guilty of violating that law. No one can say they have kept all the Ten Commandments. This is the purpose of that law – it shows us that we are guilty sinners before God.
Now the wrong use of the law is to try and justify yourself with it. Many people think that by keeping the law, they can be right with God. That is not its purpose and it will never work. The law has one purpose – it shows you that you are a sinner. That law condemns, it does not save. The only One who can save is Jesus. He is the only One who can justify.
Romans 3:24-25 Being justified freely by his grace through the redemption that is in Christ Jesus: Whom God hath set forth to be a propitiation through faith in his blood, to declare his righteousness for the remission of sins that are past, through the forbearance of God.
Christ died to pay for your breaking of the law! He is the payment for you. Run to Jesus and trust in him. He will justify you FREELY because he loves you.
In Christ,
Rody
