He that loveth his brother

Bible Reading: 1 John 2

1 John 2:10 He that loveth his brother abideth in the light, and there is none occasion of stumbling in him.

What does the light of Jesus Christ do in our lives? One thing He does is cause us to walk in the light. In other words, the life of Christ in us causes us to walk in the truth. Light is a metaphor in Scripture for truth. A true follower of Christ loves his brother. Jesus said:

John 13:34-35 A new commandment I give unto you, That ye love one another; as I have loved you, that ye also love one another. 35 By this shall all men know that ye are my disciples, if ye have love one to another.

Jesus has commanded us to love the brethren. We love because he first loved us (1 John 4:10). A believer in Christ does not stumble around in the darkness because he has the light of Christ in him.

The one who is stumbling around in darkness the person who hates.

1 John 2:11 But he that hateth his brother is in darkness, and walketh in darkness, and knoweth not whither he goeth, because that darkness hath blinded his eyes.

Is this the life of Christ? No, hatred is darkness. Love is light. Jesus does not cause us to hate our brothers and sisters in Christ. Jesus causes us to love. So if he lives in us, we will have a love for the brethren.

If you want to walk a spiritual life, love! Love is the fulfillment of the law.

In Christ,
Rody
