Bible Reading: 2 Chronicles 5; 1 John 4; Nahum 3; Luke 19
Luke 19:47-48 And he taught daily in the temple. But the chief priests and the scribes and the chief of the people sought to destroy him, And could not find what they might do: for all the people were very attentive to hear him.
Jesus caused a stir everywhere he went. He drew a sharp difference in opinion among those who heard him teach. The religious leaders wanted him dead and the people sat at his feet and listened. It seems this is still the case today. The leadership of the world does not want to listen to Jesus. The Bible says:
Psalms 2:2-3 The kings of the earth set themselves, and the rulers take counsel together, against the LORD, and against his anointed, saying, Let us break their bands asunder, and cast away their cords from us.
We have leaders (United Nations) meeting together to try and rewrite history and destroy the foundations of the followers of Jesus. They had God and do not want to submit to him.
It is interesting that the thing that held back the leaders of the day was the belief of the common people. They couldn’t find a way to destroy Jesus because everywhere he went the people were very attentive to him. The problem in our day is that the leaders hate the Lord and the people could care less about what he has to say. In our city of about 98,000 people it is estimated that about 70,000 do not gather with a church to worship Jesus! Over seventy percent will not listen attentively to the words of Jesus today. Soon, the leaders will be able to sway the people to their way of thinking rather than the people being influenced by Jesus.
Do you listen attentively to Jesus? Jesus said that the wise man is he who hears his word and does it (Luke 6:46-49). Are you a wise person? Are you a person of faith?
Romans 10:17 So then faith cometh by hearing, and hearing by the word of God.
We have to hear what Jesus has to say. His Word is our food. Let’s pray that we might by very attentive to hear him and that others will hear his Word and believe!
In Christ,
Rody
