A man is brought to a piece of bread

Bible Reading: Proverbs 4-6

Proverbs 6:26-29 For by means of a whorish woman a man is brought to a piece of bread: and the adulteress will hunt for the precious life. Can a man take fire in his bosom, and his clothes not be burned? Can one go upon hot coals, and his feet not be burned? So he that goeth in to his neighbour's wife; whosoever toucheth her shall not be innocent.

To be brought to a piece of bread means to be totally broke. A whorish woman will bring a man to poverty. This is serious business. God intended for a man and a woman to be faithful to each other in marriage. When a woman breaks her marriage covenant she is an adulteress and the Bible calls her a whorish woman.

The book of Proverbs is considered a wisdom book. It is written by a man to his son to teach wisdom. It is not wise to go after a whorish woman. There will be consequences. Just like carrying fire or walking on hot coals, the fire will burn you. To touch a married woman brings consequences.

It is truly amazing that this was written thousands of years ago and it directly applies today. Adultery is very common in our country and society. It gets called 'an affair', but God's Word calls it adultery. It is condemned in the Ten Commandments and the faithful marriage is commended by the New Testament as a picture of Christ and his church.

Never think for a minute that a person who commits adultery can get away with it. They will not. They will not be innocent.

Proverbs 6:32-33 But whoso committeth adultery with a woman lacketh understanding: he that doeth it destroyeth his own soul. A wound and dishonour shall he get; and his reproach shall not be wiped away.

Guard your heart. Follow Jesus and his Spirit will never lead you into sin.

In Christ,
