The patience of the saints

Bible Reading: Revelation 18

Revelation 14:12 Here is the patience of the saints: here are they that keep the commandments of God, and the faith of Jesus.

Patience is a necessary virtue for a follower of Jesus Christ. Patience is needed for enduring trials.

James 1:2-4 My brethren, count it all joy when ye fall into divers temptations; 3 Knowing this, that the trying of your faith worketh patience. 4 But let patience have her perfect work, that ye may be perfect and entire, wanting nothing.

Patience is necessary for waiting upon the Lord.

James 5:7 Be patient therefore, brethren, unto the coming of the Lord. Behold, the husbandman waiteth for the precious fruit of the earth, and hath long patience for it, until he receive the early and latter rain.

Romans 8:25 But if we hope for that we see not, then do we with patience wait for it.

Patience is necessary for finishing the race that is set before us.

Hebrews 12:1 Wherefore seeing we also are compassed about with so great a cloud of witnesses, let us lay aside every weight, and the sin which doth so easily beset us, and let us run with patience the race that is set before us,

Patience is necessary for dealing with people.

1 Thessalonians 5:14 Now we exhort you, brethren, warn them that are unruly, comfort the feebleminded, support the weak, be patient toward all men.

So how do we cultivate patience in our lives? We obey and believe. We keep the commandments of God and the faith of Jesus Christ. Patience is a calm determination that God is right and he is in control. We can trust his Word and so we believe and we walk in obedience.

1 John 3:23 And this is his commandment, That we should believe on the name of his Son Jesus Christ, and love one another, as he gave us commandment.

Love and believe. That is patience. Saints walk in patience.
