Bible Reading: Revelation 8
Revelation 8:1 And when he had opened the seventh seal, there was silence in heaven about the space of half an hour.
We read of all the noise in heaven in Revelation 4 and 5.
Revelation 4:8 And the four beasts had each of them six wings about him; and they were full of eyes within: and they rest not day and night, saying, Holy, holy, holy, Lord God Almighty, which was, and is, and is to come.
Now before the angels begin to sound their trumpets it is silent for about a half hour. Why the silence? Because all the host of heaven are contemplating the devastation that is about to be unleashed upon the earth. This is a judgment that is coming.
Does God take pleasure in this judgment?
Ezekiel 33:11 Say unto them, As I live, saith the Lord God, I have no pleasure in the death of the wicked; but that the wicked turn from his way and live: turn ye, turn ye from your evil ways; for why will ye die, O house of Israel?
God does not want any to perish.
2 Peter 3:9 The Lord is not slack concerning his promise, as some men count slackness; but is longsuffering to us- ward, not willing that any should perish, but that all should come to repentance.
Can you imagine how horrible this judgment will be that the very thought of it would silence the continual praise of heaven? This judgment can be avoided. Anyone who will turn to Jesus now and trust in him can be spared this judgment. Maybe you need to repent and trust in Jesus. Maybe you need to share the gospel with someone who needs to hear the good news today.
In Christ,
Rody
