Thou art my beloved Son

Bible Reading: Luke 3

Luke 3:22 And the Holy Ghost descended in a bodily shape like a dove upon him, and a voice came from heaven, which said, Thou art my beloved Son; in thee I am well pleased.

The Father is pleased with the Son.  At his baptism, the Holy Ghost descended upon him like a dove and the voice of the Father was heard to say he was pleased with the Son.  The Father is please with the Son because he is righteous.  No other human being fits this description.

Romans 3:10-11 As it is written, There is none righteous, no, not one: There is none that understandeth, there is none that seeketh after God.

But Jesus is righteous.

1 John 3:5 And ye know that he was manifested to take away our sins; and in him is no sin.

The recognition of a son by a father is a really important thing.  Many men long for their father to bless them by telling them, ‘atta boy!  To hear a father say he is well pleased with his son is a blessing that is of great value.  Jesus heard the Father tell him this.  What about you?  Is God well pleased with you?  Many people don’t know how God feels about them, but they are pretty sure he is upset with them because they do not do all they should.

The wonderful truth of the Christian life is that a believer is ‘in Christ’.  If you are in Christ, the Father is pleased with you like he is pleased with his Son.

Ephesians 1:3 Blessed be the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, who hath blessed us with all spiritual blessings in heavenly places in Christ.
Ephesians 1:6 To the praise of the glory of his grace, wherein he hath made us accepted in the beloved.

We are accepted in the beloved (Jesus Christ).  If you are in Christ, God no longer sees you in yourself and your sin.  When he looks at you, he sees Jesus Christ and he says, “Thou art my beloved son; in thee I am well pleased.”

In Christ,
Rody
