He Withdrew Himself

Bible Reading: Luke 5

Luke 5:16 And he withdrew himself into the wilderness, and prayed.

After a heavy day of ministry, Jesus departed from the company of his disciples and found a place to be alone for prayer.  We see this being a common practice in the life of Jesus.

Mark 1:35 And in the morning, rising up a great while before day, he went out, and departed into a solitary place, and there prayed.

He withdrew himself to a solitary place where he could be alone with the Father.  He needed a time to spend with the Father.  He wanted to commune with the Father.  He made time for this in his very busy schedule.  I am reminded of how important it is to get alone with God.  Prayer is something we are told to do “without ceasing” (1 Thessalonians 5:17).  If we do this, we can’t only pray when we are alone.  We must carry on a conversation all day as we go about our duties.  However, when Jesus taught the disciples to pray, he said:

Matthew 6:6 But thou, when thou prayest, enter into thy closet, and when thou hast shut thy door, pray to thy Father which is in secret; and thy Father which seeth in secret shall reward thee openly.

So whether it is in a quiet room of your house or out in a solitary place in nature – find time to get alone with God.  God is the source of a Christian’s strength and life.  We need time to confess our sins and to find his will for our life.  We need to just talk and receive the comforting ministry that the God of all comfort (2 Corinthians 1:3) gives to us.

Proverbs 18:24 A man that hath friends must shew himself friendly: and there is a friend that sticketh closer than a brother.

That friend that sticks closer than a brother is Jesus.  We need to walk with him and talk with him. He desires to fellowship with us and he has all the answers to the questions we ask.  I want to encourage you to spend time with the very Creator on a daily basis!

In Christ,
Rody
