The dayspring from on high

Bible Reading: Luke 1

Luke 1:76-79 And thou, child, shalt be called the prophet of the Highest: for thou shalt go before the face of the Lord to prepare his ways; To give knowledge of salvation unto his people by the remission of their sins, Through the tender mercy of our God; whereby the dayspring from on high hath visited us, To give light to them that sit in darkness and in the shadow of death, to guide our feet into the way of peace.

Zacharias prophesied concerning his son, John the Baptist when he was born.  He knew that he would be called a prophet of God and that he would go before the Lord Jesus to prepare the way for his coming.  What a time Zacharias and Elizabeth were living in!  The dayspring from on high had visited them!  The word ‘dayspring’ means the rising of the sun or the dawning of a new day.  It is used to describe the direction of the sun’s rising – east.

Too bad that many pagans worship the sun instead of the true dayspring – Jesus Christ.  His light is the light that brings salvation and remission of sins.  The Bible says of Jesus:

John 1:9 That was the true Light, which lighteth every man that cometh into the world.

The light of Jesus is for all men.  He brings light to them in darkness.  Darkness is a term to describe the state of a person who does not know Jesus.  They live in darkness and do the deeds of darkness.

John 3:19-21 And this is the condemnation, that light is come into the world, and men loved darkness rather than light, because their deeds were evil. For every one that doeth evil hateth the light, neither cometh to the light, lest his deeds should be reproved. But he that doeth truth cometh to the light, that his deeds may be made manifest, that they are wrought in God.

Not only is there salvation and remission of sins in Jesus, but he also guides our feet in the way of peace.  He saves and he guides.  Are you following him?  John had the privilege of preparing the way for Jesus.  Jesus is the way.  Are you following the way?  Are you walking in the light?  The dayspring has risen!  The true light is here.  Jesus is Lord!

In Christ,
Rody
