He that hateth reproof shall die

Proverbs 15:10 Correction is grievous unto him that forsaketh the way: and he that hateth reproof shall die.

What a stern warning from this proverb about a person who hates correction and reproof. The interesting thing is that God’s Word is THE tool to bring correction and reproof into our lives.

2 Timothy 3:16 All scripture is given by inspiration of God, and is profitable for doctrine, for reproof, for correction, for instruction in righteousness.

A person who does not like to be reproved will neglect the Bible because God brings correction and reproof into our lives through the Bible. Chapter 15 in proverbs has much to say about correction and reproof.

Proverbs 15:5 A fool despiseth his father's instruction: but he that regardeth reproof is prudent.

A good father should be the one to bring the instruction of wisdom to a child. A wise person listens to his father’s instructions and reproofs and grows thereby.

Proverbs 15:12 A scorner loveth not one that reproveth him: neither will he go unto the wise.

If it is the wise and those who love you that bring to you the correction and reproof of the Word of God, then how grievous is the scorner who does not love the one who tries to help them by pointing out the truth! The scorner will not go to the wise to learn because his foolish lifestyle will be reproved.

Proverbs 15:31 The ear that heareth the reproof of life abideth among the wise.

Proverbs 15:33 The fear of the LORD is the instruction of wisdom; and before honour is humility.

The only way to be wise is to fear the LORD and to go to the wise and listen to the clear, biblical teaching that they have. This teaching will include reproof and correction but it brings wisdom. Will you hear the words of wisdom? Will you go to the wise and learn?
