While the earth remaineth

Bible Reading: Genesis 8 - 11

Genesis 8:21-22 And the Lord smelled a sweet savour; and the Lord said in his heart, I will not again curse the ground any more for man's sake; for the imagination of man's heart is evil from his youth; neither will I again smite any more every thing living, as I have done. 22 While the earth remaineth, seedtime and harvest, and cold and heat, and summer and winter, and day and night shall not cease.

2012 is going to be an interesting year. The ancient Maya and Hopi's as well as the Bible Code predict either catastrophies or something huge and 'earth shattering' for this year. I don't believe any of these, so that is not the direction I am going with this post. I believe the Word of God. After the flood, God promised Noah that he would not again curse the ground for man's sake. He said he would not destroy the earth with a flood.

Genesis 9:15-16 And I will remember my covenant, which is between me and you and every living creature of all flesh; and the waters shall no more become a flood to destroy all flesh. 16 And the bow shall be in the cloud; and I will look upon it, that I may remember the everlasting covenant between God and every living creature of all flesh that is upon the earth.

God has promised that seasons and day and night will not cease as long as the earth remains. No polar shifts are going to occur. And nothing will change as far as seasons go. However...

This world will be destroyed some day. It will happen in God's timing after Jesus returns tot he earth.

2 Peter 3:7 But the heavens and the earth, which are now, by the same word are kept in store, reserved unto fire against the day of judgment and perdition of ungodly men.

2 Peter 3:10 But the day of the Lord will come as a thief in the night; in the which the heavens shall pass away with a great noise, and the elements shall melt with fervent heat, the earth also and the works that are therein shall be burned up.

This is not a cause for worry. For followers of Jesus, it means the heavens and earth which now are must be removed so there can be a new heaven and a new earth. It also means that any catastrophe that might happen to the earth is in our Lord's hands. We don't look forward to catastrophe or any particular date. We look forward to the coming of the Lord! God is in control of our galaxy and our universe. Trust him and remember that every day he tarries is another opportunity for those who do not know him to repent and believe on Jesus Christ!

In Christ,
Rody
