Bible Reading: Acts 5
Acts 5:42 And daily in the temple, and in every house, they ceased not to teach and preach Jesus Christ.
The apostles had just received a beating from the religious leaders for preaching in the name of Jesus Christ. They were warned that they should no longer preach in the name of Jesus. They response of the apostles is amazing.
Acts 5:41 And they departed from the presence of the council, rejoicing that they were counted worthy to suffer shame for his name.
They were doing exactly what Jesus told them to do when they were persecuted for his name’s sake.
Matthew 5:11-12 Blessed are ye, when men shall revile you, and persecute you, and shall say all manner of evil against you falsely, for my sake. Rejoice, and be exceeding glad: for great is your reward in heaven: for so persecuted they the prophets which were before you.
Not only did they rejoice, but they did not stop teaching and preaching Jesus Christ. He was their message! They knew the Truth and nothing would stop them from spreading the truth.
Are you continually teaching and preaching Jesus Christ? Do you regularly share the gospel with others? The Greek word translated ‘preach’ in Acts 5:42 is the word from which we get evangelizing. They taught people about Jesus Christ and the evangelized by preaching Jesus Christ.
I wonder what kinds of obstacles get in our way when we consider sharing the gospel with others. It certainly isn’t getting beaten by the authorities. We live in a place where it is not against the law to share the gospel. Let us be witnesses for Christ and overcome the obstacles that Satan puts in our way.
In Christ,
